Sam, the Miami-born founder of Cay Marine Group, has saltwater coursing through his veins. From his boyhood days spent navigating the idyllic Bahamian waters on international fishing voyages, to his invaluable experience shadowing his father, Joe Schechter, in the bustling Cay Marine boatyard, Sam’s life has been steeped in maritime tradition. Over the years, he developed a remarkable breadth of knowledge in aspects as diverse as boat painting, project management, and operational oversight. It was only a matter of time before he would steer his own course, and with the rise in demand for leisure boats, he founded Cay Marine Group, a boutique yacht brokerage house embodying his passion for the sea and astute business sense.
Today, Sam and his team at Cay Marine Group continue to cater to the discerning yachting community, with an unerring dedication that only comes from a deep love for the ocean. Raised on the south shore of Long Island, Joe’s life has always been inextricably linked with the sea. His childhood was punctuated by boating, fishing, and surfing, experiences that fostered in him a deep love for the oceanic lifestyle. His summers spent in Montauk, fishing with his father, imbued in him a passion for boating – a passion that extended beyond mere hobby and transformed into a comprehensive knowledge of boat manufacturing, customs, and production. His devotion led him to start from humble beginnings, where he cleaned boats at the local yacht club – a job that would later evolve into a full-scale boat maintenance service in New York, and later, Florida. Joe’s relentless pursuit of his passion culminated in him owning a boatyard and starting a complete refinishing company, CAY MARINE SERVICE. His eye for detail, honed over the years, has elevated his business to exceptional heights.
Joe’s impact on the local boating community has been nothing short of transformative. His expertise and commitment to quality have set a new standard within the marine industry. Cay Marine, once a simple maintenance facility, has become a hub of craftsmanship and innovation under his leadership. Like father, like son – Sam has followed in his father’s footsteps, learning the ins and outs of boat maintenance from an early age. With this knowledge and passion, Sam took the next step towards establishing a boutique yacht brokerage – CAY MARINE GROUP, where he provides a unique and comprehensive service for boat owners.
Beyond their professional relationship, Joe and Sam share an unbreakable bond over their love for boating. In fact, Joe’s passion for boating is only surpassed by his love for his son. Their shared experiences on the water have not only strengthened their relationship but have also solidified their commitment to the marine industry.
Abbey’s upbringing on the serene shores of Eastern North Carolina is a testament to her hospitable and collected personality. Her love for finance led her to pursue a Master’s in Finance from FIU, where she honed her skills and knowledge. In 2010, Abbey joined CAY Marine and has been an integral part of the team ever since.
Wearing many hats, she oversees daily operations with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Abbey’s leadership style fosters a collaborative environment, encouraging teamwork and nurturing a sense of unity. She is committed to exceeding client expectations and continuously seeks ways to improve their experience with CAY Marine. Her pursuit of excellence in client satisfaction reflects her love for the marine industry and her dedication to her role at CAY Marine.

Born in Venezuela and raised in Miami since the age of 7, Yoalbert practically grew up in the yachting world. He was behind the wheel of a boat before he even learned to drive a car, and at the age of 10, Yoalbert discovered his passion for yacht maintenance in the family business. By the time Yoalbert was just 18, he had successfully closed his first yacht sale – a journey that began with center consoles and eventually led to mega yachts. Yoalbert’s commitment to excellence prompted him to spend time in various European yacht factories each year, especially Italy, to gain acute knowledge and master his skills to better serve his clients. However, for Yoalbert, “the sale is just the beginning. I strongly believe that my work truly begins after the deal is done, and I am always available to assist new owners”. Yoalbert’s incredible knowledge of the market and attention to his clients needs makes him an incredible asset to any buyer or seller novice or veteran.

Raised in South Florida, Nicholas has enjoyed spending time on the water starting from a very young age. Whether fishing, hanging out on a sandbar, or doing any sort of watersport, you can find him on the water just about any given weekend. It’s from these life-long memories Nicholas decided to join Cay Marine Group in January 2023, in hopes of inspiring and helping create the same unforgettable experiences with our clients. He specializes in center consoles, but also has knowledge of luxury boats and yachts of all types. Nicholas is a “go-getter” and someone who is always willing to go the extra mile for his clients.

Jeffrey brings years of experience and knowledge to the Cay Marine Group. He possesses a 100 Ton Masters Captains License and has managed a 130 slip marina for The Village Of Lawrence, NY. Jeff grew up on Long Island and developed a passion for cruising and fishing from Cape May to the Nantucket Shoals. Now residing in South Florida, Jeff is ready and willing to help new and existing clients and will be involved in all aspects prior to, during and after the sale.

Mino’s passion for the ocean and fishing began at the age of five hunting octopus between the volcanic rocks of Italy with his grandpa. A passion that with time brought him close to boats and the boating life. During his high school days, he became friend with Sam and Joe, the owners of CAY Marine. After college Mino went on to enjoy a short yet successful career in the home improvement business. He reconnected by chance with the Schechter family after learning of the successful launch of their brokerage business. CAY Marine helped Mino acquire extensive knowledge on boat brands and their quality construction, enabling him to advise his customers with the best choice yacht for their needs.

Brian Hernandez was born and raised in Miami, FL with the water and boating world influencing him greatly. Following his undergraduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Brian moved back home and began working as a charter fishing mate in Coconut Grove before securing his broker license with Cay Marine Group. With fishing as his strong suit, Brian is most familiar with sport-fishing and center console yachts catered towards both the professional and recreational anglers.

By the water, on the water, in the water is where you’ll find Captain MO. As a native Floridian, pursuing a career in his most happy place has come easily. After graduating from high school in South Florida, Captain MO moved to Israel to study abroad and serve in the Israeli Defense Forces (I.D.F.) Upon completing his service in the army, he relocated back to New York. He earned a degree in accounting and worked in foreign military sales, with a focus on naval systems procurement. His twenty-two-year career in purchasing and sales of both commercial and military equipment led him through five continents. Missing home, Captain MO moved back to Florida and his mangrove roots in 1998. After many years captaining for his family, Captain MO earned his 50-Ton US Coast Guard Master license and now shares his passion by hosting his charter clients and volunteering using his skills on the water to support others whenever he can. Captain MO takes pride in liaising with all levels of the supply chain.

Anthony’s passion for boating started when he first got on the water at the early age of 2 months old. From there it’s grown from a hobby, to a career with CAY marine group. Anthony first met Joe when his grandfather’s Viking sportfish came into CAY marine for a refit, and life circled them back together 20 years later.
